Betsy Winkworth was born in Beaulieu in 1806 to Charles and Elizabeth (nee Seagur), the third of their six children. She was baptised at Beaulieu church on 27th April 1806.

She married James Heath, an agricultural labourer, on 13th April 1835 at Beaulieu church. The marriage service was conducted by Rector Henry Adams.

In 1841 they lived in Furzey Lodge with daughters Ann (5) and Elizabeth (3) and 1 year old son James.

James (Snr) was proposed for church membership at the chapel in 1849 but there is no specific mention of his subsequent baptism. Betsy is not mentioned as a member of the church in the chapel records.

The 1851 census shows James working as a general servant and they resided at Penerley Lodge with youngest son James still at school. Daughter Ann had moved to Hailsham and was living with her uncle, William Winkworth's family working as a house servant.

In 1861 James and Betsy lived in Penerley Cottage, their children all having left home.

Betsy was buried at the chapel by the Rev John Bartlett Burton 3rd October 1866.

(James died in 1884 and was buried at the chapel on 5th May 1884 but does not have a gravestone).
