Tynan as a surname originates from Ireland and it was relatively uncommon in the UK in the 1800s. 19th century records show small family groups named Tynan in Merseyside,  Stalybridge and Miles Platting (nr Manchester), Sheffield, Bolton, Kensal Green (London) and Haltwhistle (Northumberland).

The first record of Jemima in East Boldre is in the 1881 census which lists her as an 80 year old widow. Records also exist for her death and probate which was handled by a solicitor rather than her next of kin so unfortunately no helpful lead to her family there.

A Jemima Tynan was born in 1804 in Knoll, Dorset. However, this birth record would imply the same married and maiden name which is highly unlikely if the information in the 1881 census that she is a widow is correct.

Research is ongoing.

Jemima was buried by Rev. Henry New on 13th October 1889. Her epitaph is a quote from Matthew 11:28.
